A body freed from nervous tension and over fatigue

Joseph Pilates – Founder of the Pilates Method

About Pilates

Pilates is a body conditioning method that works in a different way to any other fitness technique. Developed by Joseph Pilates (1880-1967), it targets deep postural muscles, building strength from the inside out. Pilates will improve posture, increase flexibility and mobility, and relieve unwanted stress and tension. It helps reshape your body – which will become leaner and more toned. The perfect balance between strength and flexibility.
Pilates works for all ages and all bodies, from the first time exerciser to the top athlete. It is especially beneficial to those people who suffer from postural backache and neck ache as it helps to rebalance the body and bring it into correct alignment.

The Body Control Pilates Association

Body Control Pilates is based on the work of Joseph Pilates. The Body Control Pilates Association (BCPA) was established in 1996, with the goal of bringing the benefits of Pilates to all!
Body Control Pilates exercises are adapted from the ‘classical’ exercises developed by Joseph Pilates. These physically challenging classical exercises have been broken down by the BCPA so that their benefits can be enjoyed by everyone, regardless of fitness level. This is the essence of the Body Control Pilates method.
The BCPA is Europe’s largest professional body for Pilates teachers and boasts an excellent reputation for effectiveness and quality. All members subscribe to a code of practice that governs professional ethics, teaching standards, class size (maximum 12 participants) and ongoing professional development.

“Our mission has been to bring the benefits of Pilates to everyone. To this end, we have created a method that is effective, safe and challenging: a method that is taught by teachers with unrivalled skills, knowledge and integrity.”
